The 2016 version of the SAT presents students with a new set of test preparation issues. The 2016 SAT features redesigned math and verbal assessments that are thought to better prepare students for college courses, an optional essay section, and enhanced scoring across multiple categories. These changes have drastically altered the landscape of SAT teaching and learning. Vocabulary memorization exercises, for example, no longer provide the score benefits that they once did, and abstract mathematical knowledge is no longer as important as the ability to infer quantitative information. The 2016 SAT requires preparation based on the most up-to-date teaching strategies available. Manhattan Review's SAT prep classes and private tutoring feature the most current data, research, and teaching practices to ensure that our students are ready for the new SAT.
The credibility and usefulness of the SAT has been debated for some time, but high SAT scores are undoubtedly still important to college admissions. Though test-optional policies have attracted a significant amount of attention in recent years, the SAT is still considered at the majority of universities and is especially important for students who wish to attend the more selective post-secondary institutions. Stanford University, for example, accepted very few students who submitted composite SAT scores below 2100, but did accept a much larger percentage of students who met or exceeded this level. 75th percentile SAT scores for a recent entering class at Columbia University were 780 reading, 790 math, and 780 writing, and fewer than 25% of students accepted to Harvard scored below 700 on any of the SAT's three sections. Manhattan Review's SAT prep courses and private tutoring include rigorous teaching on SAT subject matter, test-taking strategies, and time management skills to produce SAT scores that meet the highest admissions standards.
